Shoulders Laser Hair Removal
Shoulders laser hair removal is a very frequent request from men, often combined with back or chest treatment. The shoulders are a particularly visible transition area, especially in summer when wearing a tank top or at the beach. Coarse hairs or dense fuzz on the curve of the shoulder can disrupt the harmony of the silhouette and become a source of self-consciousness.
Trying to maintain this area yourself is particularly difficult. Using a razor there is impractical, creates prickly regrowth by the next day and causes bumps due to friction from bag straps or clothing. Waxing, for its part, is painful and often triggers significant inflammatory reactions on this thin skin. Medical laser hair removal offers a permanent solution that frees men from this chore and gives them clear skin again.
The benefits of a targeted treatment:
- Aesthetic harmony: The treatment clears the top of the deltoid and creates a clean, attractive transition towards the arms and neck.
- No more friction bumps: The shoulders are subject to a great deal of daily friction (clothing, backpacks, seat belts). This friction on shaved or waxed skin systematically causes ingrown hairs and folliculitis. By destroying the hair bulb at the root, the laser permanently eliminates the cause of these bumps.
Why do the shoulders require medical expertise?
The shoulders are among the so-called hormone-dependent areas in men. This means that hair growth there is directly stimulated by male hormones (testosterone) and that it can continue to develop and become denser until around the age of 40.
The risk of paradoxical regrowth: This is the most important technical point regarding the shoulders. If unsuitable laser heat is applied to fuzz that is too fine or too light around the edges of the shoulder (towards the upper arm or the neck), it can stimulate the germ cells and turn this fuzz into thick hair. This is why a doctor’s expertise is essential. During the consultation, the practitioner precisely defines the area, targeting only hairs that are sufficiently mature and dark to guarantee an effective, risk-free treatment.
Procedure, sensations and pace of the sessions
A quick treatment: The shoulders are a relatively small surface area. A session lasts an average of 10 to 15 minutes. It is a very quick treatment.
Comfort level: The top of the shoulder, close to the bone (collarbone and acromion), can be more sensitive to the laser pulses. You feel a sharp, warm tingling. For optimal comfort, our devices release a continuous jet of icy air that instantly numbs the skin and neutralises the heat of the pulse.
Session schedule: As the hair cycle in this area is fairly slow, you should allow an average of 6 to 8 sessions, spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart at the start of the protocol.
Essential safety guidelines
To ensure the success of your treatment and protect your skin, a few strict rules apply:
No sun: The shoulders burn very easily. The skin must not be tanned at all (no sun exposure, tanning beds or self-tanner for 4 weeks before the session).
Shaving: You will be asked to shave the area closely 24 hours before the appointment. Do not use wax or tweezers for one month beforehand.
After the session: Apply a repairing, soothing cream for 48 hours. Avoid sources of heat (sauna, hammam, very hot showers) and intensive sport for 24 hours to let the skin recover. When going outdoors, make sure to protect your shoulders with SPF 50+ sunscreen.
