How does an HA injection session work?
After analysing your face, Dr Simon Sebbah, a trainer for filler products, will suggest a tailored treatment plan. The Doctor & Co centre uses products from the Belotero range.
Depending on the area(s) to be treated, a hyaluronic acid injection session lasts 15 to 45 minutes. After the session, the patient can resume their activities immediately. No social downtime is required.
What are the contraindications?
Hyaluronic acid injections can be performed on men and women of all ages.
This treatment cannot be performed in the following cases:
- hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid
- skin infections at the injection site
- autoimmune diseases
- pregnant women
What are the side effects?
Following a session, the treated area may feel firm and show redness or small bruises, which will disappear within 3 days after the procedure.
Does the skin sag or drop once the hyaluronic acid is reabsorbed?
Hyaluronic acid naturally stimulates collagen production in the skin and hydrates it. When the product is reabsorbed (over 6 to 12 months depending on its hyaluronic acid concentration and the area injected), the skin does not "sag": it actually tends to be of better quality and more hydrated than before the injection.
If I really don't like the result, is it permanent?
No, it is not permanent. Hyaluronic acid is fully reabsorbed by the body over time. In addition, in case of urgency or major dissatisfaction, the doctor can inject an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which dissolves the product within a few hours in a completely safe manner.
Can I go back to work immediately after the appointment?
Yes, in most cases this is a so-called "socially invisible" treatment that requires no social downtime. However, slight redness, minor swelling (oedema) or small bruises may appear at the injection points. These are easy to conceal with a little make-up.
Can hyaluronic acid migrate in the face?
Migration is rare but possible, particularly if the product was injected in too large a quantity, too superficially, with poor injection technique, or if the area is massaged too vigorously right after the session. Choosing a qualified doctor and following post-treatment instructions (not massaging the area) minimises this risk.
Do smoking or sport affect how long the product lasts?
Yes, smoking causes significant oxidative stress that speeds up the breakdown of the product. Similarly, high-level athletes or people with a very active metabolism tend to eliminate hyaluronic acid faster, as their body "burns" the components more quickly.
At what age can you start getting injections?
The legal minimum age is 18 (age of majority). Aside from correcting a specific asymmetry or complex (such as very thin lips or a bump on the nose), there is no anti-ageing benefit to starting before the first signs of skin ageing, dehydrated skin or volume loss appear. Most people start around 25 to 30 years old, or take a preventive approach with skin booster or mesotherapy injections.
I often get cold sores (herpes) - can I still have my lips injected?
Yes, but under preventive treatment. Indeed, injecting the lips (the trauma of the needle) can trigger a herpes outbreak in people prone to it. It is essential to inform the doctor in advance so they can prescribe an antiviral treatment to start the day before the session.
