Bikini Line Laser Hair Removal (Classic or High-Cut)
Bikini line hair removal is one of the most common aesthetic treatments, but it is also one of the most dreaded because of how sensitive this area of the body is. The classic bikini line, which consists of removing only the hairs that show outside standard underwear or a swimsuit, is the ideal option for women who want a natural, neat look without opting for full hair removal.
The high-cut bikini line also partly removes the hair on the outer labia and above the pubic area, the ideal option when wearing slightly higher-cut swimsuits or underwear.
Repeated use of a razor, wax or an electric epilator on this area almost always comes with unpleasant side effects. The skin there is thin, reactive and subject to constant friction from clothing. This encourages redness, painful irritation, folliculitis (hair infection) and ingrown hairs that can leave small dark scars or hyperpigmentation of the skin. Laser hair removal offers a permanent alternative that frees patients from these problems for good and restores complete comfort.
Why do the classic and high-cut bikini lines respond so well to laser?
Statistically, the bikini area is one of the areas that delivers the fastest and most impressive results in laser hair removal. This is explained by the very nature of the hair in this area.
Bikini hairs are naturally thick, coarse and rich in melanin (the dark pigment), while the skin in this area, protected by clothing for much of the year, generally remains light. This high contrast allows the laser beam to be optimally absorbed by the hair. The light energy is converted into heat and travels down the hair shaft to destroy the bulb at its root. As soon as the root is eliminated, the hair can no longer grow back and the follicle closes, leaving the skin perfectly smooth.
The full protocol requires an average of 7 to 10 sessions, spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart.
However, as this area is hormone-dependent, the number of sessions may be higher for some patients.
How to manage your hair between two laser sessions?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions: what should you do about the hairs that keep growing at the start of the treatment? The golden rule is very simple, but crucial to the success of the protocol: you must never pull the hair out again.
Throughout your treatment, the use of wax, tweezers or an electric epilator is strictly forbidden. The laser needs the hair root to be present in the follicle in order to target and destroy it during the next session. If the hair root, also called the bulb, is pulled out mechanically, the laser session will be ineffective.
If the regrowth bothers you between two appointments, you must only use a razor. Rest assured: contrary to popular belief, shaving between laser sessions will not make the hair coarser, as the follicle has already been weakened by the medical treatment.
How your skin changes over the course of treatment
From the very first session, the change is visible and brings real relief:
After 15 days: The treated hairs start to fall out on their own. You will notice that regrowth is much slower and that the hairs that reappear are already finer and softer.
Over the sessions: Hair density decreases dramatically. The “shadow” effect or dark areas under the skin disappear.
The benefit for the skin: The greatest advantage remains the complete disappearance of ingrown hairs. As the laser eliminates the root, the skin is no longer attacked by hairs growing under the surface. Bumps and pigmentation marks fade, leaving soft, healthy and even skin.
