Laser Hair Removal – Face – Women

Facial Laser Hair Removal

Facial hair in women is a completely natural phenomenon, but it can sometimes become a source of self-consciousness or everyday discomfort. Whether it is dark fuzz or thicker hairs, finding the right method to get rid of it for the long term is a common concern. Traditional techniques such as waxing, tweezing, depilatory cream, threading or shaving quickly show their limits. As well as being short-lived and sometimes painful, they carry the major risk of stimulating regrowth, making the hair coarser and causing irritation, pigmentation spots or ingrown hairs on skin that is particularly thin and exposed.

At our medical clinic, facial laser hair removal stands out as the gold-standard solution. Safe, precise and long-lasting, this cutting-edge technology permanently frees your skin from unwanted hair while improving its overall texture.

How does the laser work on the face?

Laser hair removal is based on the principle of selective photothermolysis. The medical laser emits a beam of light at a specific wavelength, designed to be selectively absorbed by melanin, the dark pigment that colours the hair.

As it travels along the hair shaft, this light energy is instantly converted into heat. It is this thermal peak that destroys the bulb and the hair matrix, permanently preventing any future regrowth.

Did you know? The treatment is only effective on hairs in their active growth phase (known as the anagen phase), because this is the only time when the hair is directly attached to its root. As facial hair cycles are asynchronous, not all cells are responsive at the same time. This is why a full protocol necessarily requires several sessions spaced out over time to destroy almost all the roots, and therefore almost all the hairs.

Almost all, because there are always a few hairs that can never be targeted during their growth phase. The other possibility is that, as the face is a hormone-dependent area (under the influence of hormones), some hairs may be resistant to the laser.

This is why, in certain situations, a hormonal assessment will be needed before any laser treatment.

Protocol, sessions and results

The face is a specific skin area that is heavily subject to hormonal variations and stimulation. For this reason, it requires a rigorous protocol and a little more patience than body areas.

Number of sessions: A protocol of at least 8 to 10 sessions is generally required (sometimes with a few additional sessions depending on the profile and the nature of the hair) to achieve an optimal and stable result. Appointments are spaced 4 weeks apart at the start, then adapted to the pace of regrowth.

How the treatment feels: Facial sessions are extremely quick, often lasting only a few minutes. The sensation varies according to each person’s sensitivity, generally resembling a slight tingling or the snap of a warm elastic band on the skin. To guarantee maximum comfort, our latest-generation lasers feature a continuous skin cooling system that blows cold air to reduce the sensitivity of the treated area.

How the results develop: Results are visible from the very first sessions. The hairs fall out gradually in the days following the treatment. Over the sessions, regrowth becomes much slower, and new hairs appear noticeably finer and lighter, until they have almost completely disappeared.

Essential precautions (Before / After)

To guarantee the safety of your skin and the effectiveness of the laser treatment, following the medical guidelines is essential:

Before the session

No sun: No sun exposure, tanning beds or self-tanner for at least 4 weeks before the treatment. Tanned skin contains melanin on the surface, which contraindicates the treatment in order to avoid any risk of burns.

No mechanical hair removal: It is strictly forbidden to use wax, tweezers or an electric epilator during the 4 weeks before the treatment. The bulb must remain in place so that the laser can target and destroy it.

After the session

Hydration and repair: Generously apply a soothing, repairing cream prescribed by the doctor for 48 hours after the session to calm the temporary redness.

Complete sun protection: As the face is constantly exposed, daily application of SPF 50+ sunscreen is mandatory in the following weeks to prevent pigmentation spots.

The importance of the first medical consultation

Every laser hair removal treatment at our clinic must begin with a personalised initial consultation. This medical appointment is an essential step. It allows the doctor to precisely assess your phototype (skin type) and the nature of your hair, and to check that your hairs contain enough melanin (as the laser is not effective on white, light blond or red hair).

It is also the time to rule out any contraindications (pregnancy, photosensitising medication) and to carry out a laser test if needed. At the end of this consultation, you will be given a tailored treatment plan and a personalised quote so you can proceed with complete confidence.
