Neck Laser Hair Removal
Neck laser hair removal is one of the most requested treatments among men. Often combined with hair removal on the upper back or the beard contours, the neck is a strategic area that frames the face and defines how clean a haircut looks. For many men, coarse hairs running down towards the shirt collar or joining the upper back are a source of self-consciousness and tedious grooming.
Using a razor or clippers blindly behind your head is extremely difficult and risky. In addition, regrowth is almost immediate, prickly and often accompanied by unpleasant itching caused by constant friction from collars. Waxing, for its part, is particularly painful on this sensitive area and encourages bumps. Medical laser hair removal is therefore the ideal solution for a flawless, clean hairline over the long term.
The different goals of neck treatment
Neck laser hair removal does not necessarily mean removing all the hair in an artificial way; the treatment is tailored to each patient’s wishes:
- Defining the hairline: The aim is to treat the base of the hairline. The laser makes it possible to create a clean line (straight, rounded or faded) and to permanently eliminate the stray hairs growing lower down the neck. This keeps that “fresh from the barber” look for several months.
- The neck / upper back junction: For men with dense hair growth, the treatment thins out or removes the hair transition between the base of the hairline and the shoulders, preventing hairs from showing above T-shirts or open shirts.
Why does the neck respond so well to laser?
The neck delivers excellent results because male hairs there are generally dark, thick and particularly rich in melanin. The laser beam is absorbed by this dark pigment and converted into heat, instantly destroying the hair bulb without damaging the surrounding healthy skin.
The anti-bump benefit: The neck is an area very prone to folliculitis (infection of the hair follicle) and ingrown hairs, often made worse by sweating and friction from clothing or caps. By eliminating the hair root, the laser permanently removes the cause of this inflammation. The skin on the neck becomes smooth, healthy and free from regrowth imperfections from the very first sessions.
Procedure, sensations and session schedule
Record speed: The neck is a small area. A laser session generally lasts between 5 and 10 minutes at most. It is a treatment that is very easy to fit into a busy schedule.
Comfort level: The neck is a moderately sensitive area. The laser pulses cause a warm tingling sensation comparable to the light snap of an elastic band. To guarantee optimal comfort, our medical equipment releases a continuous flow of air that instantly numbs the skin and neutralises the heat.
The protocol: On average, a full neck treatment requires 6 to 8 sessions. Appointments are spaced 6 weeks apart at the start in order to follow the natural hair growth cycle (the laser is only effective on hairs in their active growth phase).
Essential recommendations (Before / After)
As the neck is located at the back of the head, we often forget that it is exposed to the elements. A few strict guidelines must be followed:
Before the session: The area must be closely shaved 24 hours before the appointment. Please note: the use of wax or tweezers is forbidden between sessions. The skin must not be tanned at all (no direct sun exposure, tanning beds or self-tanner during the 4 weeks before the treatment).
After the session: Slight redness or small temporary swelling around the hairs (perifollicular oedema) may appear. It fades within 24 to 48 hours with the application of a soothing cream. It is recommended to avoid very hot showers, sauna and intensive sport for 24 hours. Finally, protect your neck with SPF 50+ sunscreen if you work or spend time outdoors.
