Chin Laser Hair Removal

Coarse, sometimes dark and thick hairs on the chin are a reality for many women. Yet this subject all too often remains taboo. Unlike ordinary fuzz, these isolated hairs are easily noticed in daylight and can become a real obsession, to the point of dreading close conversations or bright lighting.

To get rid of them, the immediate reflex is often to reach for the tweezers. Unfortunately, this is the perfect trap. On this specific area of the face, mechanically pulling out the hair stimulates blood flow and can awaken the dormant roots all around, making the problem worse over time and leading to new hairs. In addition, the skin of the chin often reacts badly to repeated trauma: bumps, irritation, pigmentation spots and ingrown hairs end up setting in. Medical laser hair removal at our clinic offers a concrete solution to break this vicious circle and restore clear skin.

Why is the chin such a particular area?

The chin is what is known in medicine as a hormone-sensitive area. This means that hair growth there is directly linked to variations in our hormonal system. This is why these small dark hairs often appear at key moments in a woman’s life: when changing contraception, during or after pregnancy, because of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), or at menopause.

Thanks to its precision, the laser targets and destroys the root of these active hairs to permanently stop their growth. However, because of this sensitivity to hormones, the chin requires rigour. The laser perfectly eliminates the existing hair, but it cannot prevent your body from creating new hairs in several years’ time if your hormones fluctuate again. Very occasional maintenance sessions (once a year or every two years) are therefore sometimes needed to maintain the result.

In practice: how does the treatment work?

An express session: This is a quick treatment. Treating the chin area and the underside of the jaw generally takes between 5 and 10 minutes at most.

Comfort level: As chin hairs are thicker than on the rest of the face, they capture more of the laser energy. You feel a warm tingling, a bit like the sharp snap of an elastic band. Rest assured: our latest-generation devices release a jet of very cold air at the same time. This “ice cube” effect instantly numbs the skin to make the session very bearable.

The ideal schedule: A full protocol requires at least 8 to 10 sessions. The first appointments are scheduled every 4 weeks in order to follow the natural hair growth cycle, which is the only phase in which the root can be destroyed by the laser’s heat.

Your frequently asked questions

+ - How to manage regrowth between two laser sessions?

The rule is simple: throw away your tweezers! For the laser to work, the hair bulb must remain under the skin. If you pull it out between two sessions, the laser will no longer have a target. If the regrowth bothers you, you can trim the hairs close to the skin with small scissors designed for the face.

+ - What are the immediate after-effects of the treatment?

Right after the laser, the skin may be slightly red or show small localised swellings around the follicles. This is a sign that the treatment has been effective. These mild reactions fade within a few hours. You will simply need to apply a repairing, moisturising cream (such as Cicalfate or Biafine) for 48 hours.

+ - The pitfall to avoid: the sun

The face is exposed to daylight all year round. The golden rule for a safe treatment is to avoid any sun or UV exposure for at least 4 weeks before the session (the laser cannot treat tanned skin without a risk of burns). After the treatment, daily application of SPF 50+ sunscreen is mandatory to prevent pigmentation spots.
